Cats bring joy to our lives. Being a responsible cat owner involves more than devotion and love. kittens are playful, mischevious, and ever-curious. They are often loving, but are known to scratch or bite when annoyed. Kittens are the most popular pets in the United States--37% of American households have at least one cat. Whether it is for their gentle purr or their disarming appearance, kittens are beloved animals. Cats conserve energy by sleeping more than most animals, especially as they grow older. The daily duration of sleep varies, usually 12–16 hours, with 13–14 being the average. Some cats can sleep as much as 20 hours in a 24-hour period.

Pictures of cats - cat tooth information

During its lifetime, a cat has two sets of teeth, a deciduous set and a permanent set. Kittens have 26 deciduous teeth (molars are absent); adult cats have a total of 30 teeth. Deciduous or “milk teeth” begin to appear when the kitten is about four weeks of age. At six weeks of age all 26 deciduous teeth are present. From 11 to 30 weeks of age, kittens lose their deciduous teeth. During this time they may eat less because of sore gums. When the deciduous teeth fall out, they are replaced by 30 permanent teeth. The permanent teeth should be in place by about six months of age. As cats age, tooth and gum health often deteriorates, due to an accumulation of plaque and tartar on the teeth about the gum margins. Tartar accumulation results in gum inflammation and infection, pain and discomfort, halitosis, abscesses and tooth loss. Regular dental checkups for cats are recommended to assist in avoiding severe dental disease.
